What do I need to know about Mercer WIN® and jobs?

Mercer WIN is a global market information delivery platform that lets users easily compare job-specific remuneration data across industries and borders. It uses global methodologies, common remuneration definitions, and a specific job coding framework – the Mercer Universal Position Coding System® (MUPCS®).

The MUPCS four-tiered reporting structure for executive jobs categorizes them based on both organization structure (corporate-wide, subsidiary/ group, or division) and geographic span of control (global, regional, multiple countries, or a single country).

As a result, some executive titles and coding within Mercer WIN differ from those in your local Mercer survey. In these cases, the data for local survey jobs is mapped into the global framework based on the criteria above and is displayed as such in Mercer WIN. See the specific communications provided with your survey for a list of those jobs that may be displayed differently in Mercer WIN and how to access them.

If I change my WIN password, will my imercer password change, too?

Yes, any change to your WIN password will affect your imercer password. Conversely, when you change your imercer password, your WIN password will also change.

What happens if I try to log in to WIN with a browser version that pre-dates a supported browser (such as Internet Explorer 6)?

WIN prevents you from logging in to the system if you are using a browser that pre-dates the supported version. Instead, you will receive the following message instructing you on supported browsers and versions:

What happens if I try to log in to WIN with a browser version that has been released after a supported browser version (such as Internet Explorer 9)?

In many cases, WIN allows you to log in using a browser version released after the supported browser version. However, you may experience performance issues with any version other than the supported browser version. Therefore, it is recommended that you install one of the supported browser types and versions before using WIN. For more information on system requirements, click here.

Does Mercer WIN support specializations, flags, work-type codes, and other incumbent level refinements to job codes?

The initial Mercer WIN release does not support refinements to a job code that let you drill into a subset of the data for a job where the list of values may vary by job code. In a few cases, it supports refinements such as product type or specialization for surveys that publish in late 2011 or early 2012. Accommodations are documented for Mercer Life Sciences and Energy in EMEA. Additional capability in this area is planned for Mercer WIN in 2012.

How can I analyze multiple entities or operating units in Mercer WIN?

The ability to analyze multiple entities within a single account in Mercer WIN is an Advanced Analytics feature. If you have historically looked at multiple operating companies in PayMonitor, you can still do so in Mercer WIN by upgrading your account to Entity Advanced Analytics, starting in mid-year 2012. You will be able to upgrade for an individual user or for a team of users (up to five users or unlimited users). Details on how to upgrade your account will be included in the 2012 survey data collection kits and order forms.

Can I combine the exec and non-exec comp survey/market view results in Mercer WIN?

Yes. With this first release of Mercer WIN you can analyze data from both surveys/ market views at the same time and report or export the data as one file/result. At this time, if incumbent records, jobs, or levels overlap between the executive and non-executive market views, the results will show on separate lines and can not be combined into a single line of data. A future Mercer WIN release will let you combine data from all jobs in a country regardless of which survey they come from.

Will I still pay for peer cuts?

No! Survey participants can run unlimited peer cuts for free. This feature is not available to non-participants.

How is the confidentiality of my data maintained if everyone can run unlimited free peer cuts?

Each peer group you request in Mercer WIN is run through an automated peer group approval process. A peer group is approved if you have selected at least the minimum number of organizations required for a peer group. For each subsequent peer group you request, an additional check is performed to ensure that at least four of the organizations you have selected differ from any other peer group requests you have made for that market view. In this way, individual firms’ impact of on the market data is always minimized.

What year-over-year analysis is available in Mercer WIN?

As we did in PayMonitor, Mercer publishes year-over-year analyses in PDF format (where applicable for a survey/market view). In addition, you can analyze data from more than 1 year in Mercer WIN. 2010 data is already in the tool, so users in 2011 will be able to look at both years in Mercer WIN. A future enhancement to Mercer WIN will introduce year-over-year dashboard analytics.
